resources - ceu courses

Intended for licensed design professionals, POLLACK has developed several courses that explore the process and rationale of textile design.  Presented by Rachel Doriss, VP and Associate Design Director, each course is clearly presented with a wealth of images and samples that make them as engaging as they are informative.  Please contact us for more information or to schedule one of these courses.

TEXTILES 101

Textiles 101 presents designers with the opportunity to learn about the textile process, enabling them to make the best textile choices for their projects.  The course familiarizes participants with animal, plant, and synthetic fibers. It covers yarn production and types and a variety of dye processes.  Detailed information about fabrics is presented, including basic weave constructions and special techniques.  Fabric characteristics and application guidelines are also discussed.  Hundreds of illustrations and physical examples of fibers, yarns, textiles, and illustrations are incorporated into this lecture and slide show.

Every participant will receive an illustrated textile glossary.

TEXTILES 102

INSPIRATION, IMAGINATION, INTERPRETATION
Textiles 102 invites participants to start with the spark of inspiration and examine in detail how choices of material, construction, pattern, and color are resolved to create a physically functional and aesthetically pleasing fabric.  Techniques for gathering and refining sources of inspiration will be shared, and we will move forward from the basics presented in Textiles 101 to look more closely at the specific steps taken in developing a textile from start to finish.  In particular we will focus on the methods – some traditional, others cutting-edge – that designers use to create patterns and textures in fabric.

Every participant will receive an illustrated textile glossary.
